The Zimbabwean attacker has been pivotal in The Brazilians’ performance overall, and more specifically their Absa Premiership title success, having managed 10 goals and 14 assists — including two in their 3-0 win over University of Pretoria in midweek.

Asked whether the KICK OFF readers’ votes for the Footballer of the Season prize means anything to him, Billiat says he cannot say whether he deserves the accolade but admits he would be delighted should he maintain the voters’ favour.

“I don’t know hey… I don’t know how I played,” says the modest 25-year-old. “I think there are a couple of guys that have put up a great performance throughout the season.

“But, yes, I’m happy to be nominated; I’ll be more happy if I can win it. But I’ll see on the day if I have more votes than the other guys.”

Despite having a hand in 45 percent of the team’s 53 league goals scored this season, Billiat still feels he could have contributed more and admits that his decision-making needs to improve.

“I’m happy to contribute to assists in most of the games but, if I look at my game, I think I can do better,” he adds.

“Sometimes I need to pass the ball; sometimes I need to make a simple pass. If I don’t do that, and if you look at it could even have been an assist at the end of the day.

“But, yes, I’m happy [with my contribution]. I take it one step at a time. We are professional, we still have two games to play so we want to win all the games that remain.

“Even though it’s done, we set ourselves targets in the beginning of the season that we haven’t reached so there’s still games that we need to focus on, stay humble and show professionalism.”
