The accuser of brethren
In the first part of this series it was pointed out that Satan uses accusation as a weapon to slow down, stop and deflect Christians from following Christ as they cannot go past the remorse for their past sins.
However, you need to realise that even though the accusations are not false but true, they are only true as history and not true in your current life. You have been transformed. If Satan says, “Look at you, can anyone ever be a Christian who was a prostitute? That is why things are not working for you. You are a sinner.” Take your stand and conquer him with God’s word that says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature behold old things are passed away and all things have be-come new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Tell him that a sinful identity used to be your old nature but you are now the righteousness of God. Satan is afraid of righteousness. Your righteousness is a constant rebuke to his false peace.
God’s word is a powerful and sharp-edged sword of the Spirit that can cause Satan to flee from you. But the word has to be released through your mouth towards the enemy. Why must you speak out the word against Satan’s onslaught? Satan does not always know what is in your mind because he is neither omnipotent (all-powerful) nor omniscient (all-knowing). If you hide the word in your heart and keep silent he will keep on attacking you until you show him that you know the truth about your status by verbalising what is written about your situation in the word of God. The scripture above says that you overcome by the word of your testimony, not by the word hidden in your heart or by the word of someone else’s testimony.
The word of your testimony means the word of God that you personally know and testify about with your own mouth. You believe the truth of the word with your heart but that is not enough, you need to confess it with your mouth especially when involved in battle for the mind with Satan. Christ overcame by quoting scripture and repeating the words of God. The devil left him alone after three strong confessions of relevant scripture that neutralised the devil’s cunning temptations. The other effective tool you can use to ward of Satan’s accusations is the blood of the Lamb. The blood of the Lamb stands for the divine cleansing of any sin that you confess. Sin sincerely confessed is sin completely forgiven. Make sure you quickly repent of your sins or else the blood of Jesus will not work for you. In order to overcome the accusations of the enemy you should plead the blood of Jesus over your life, your mind and your body. Pleading means applying the blood verbally.
Remember, the destroying angel could not destroy the Hebrews in Egypt because of the blood sprinkled over the doorposts of their houses. You need to verbally sprinkle the spiritual blood over your life and when Satan sees it, he will retreat.
The words of the old song holds true even today, “I’m gonna hide right under His blood where the devil can do me no harm.” It is important for you to realise that your resisting the accuser of brethren is not a power encounter (physical combat) but a truth in encounter which involves spiritual and legal facts. So learn to gather your scriptural facts and to present them judiciously, wisely and powerfully in order to be victorious.
