The clear skin!
Cleansing the face removes bacteria and makeup to achieve the flawless results you are looking for.
Use three pea-size amounts of cleanser. One for each cheek and one for the forehead, nose, and chin. Use your fingers to work the cleanser into the skin, then rinse with warm (not hot) water. Your skin should feel clean, but not stripped or waxy after you clean.
The anxiety that rises when yet another pimple flares up or another painful lump begins forming beneath the skin sends many into overdrive in attempt to counter the impending damage, but does it ever work? Does the panicked scrubbing, disinfecting, and drying ever work? Why is it that if something works for a few days, or if you get lucky, a few weeks, the long term brings the blemishes back? The cycle seems endless. It’s exhausting, painful and embarrassing!
Facial cleansing is important because the face has so many sebaceous glands that the skin is oilier than let’s say for example the skin on your hands. In addition, we apply cosmetics and products that create a film on the skin, trapping pollutants from the environment like dust and cigarette smoke. You would think the face needs some aggressive cleansing. Before you go scrubbing away all that oil and grime, you should understand how delicate the skin on your face is.
The top layer of the face’s skin, the stratum corneum, has some of the least amount of cell layers than any other part of the body. This thinner layer makes the skin more easily irritated. Also, because the face moves so much and has so many nerve endings, it’s easier to notice tightness there. This combination means the skin has the potential to get irritated.
With all the new skin care products and tools, it can be confusing trying to decide the best way to wash your face. Not too long ago, the only choices you had in facial cleansers were bar soaps and cold creams. Now, entire store aisles are devoted to various facial cleansing options. An important guideline to follow when deciding how to wash your face is this. Use the mildest cleanser that gets rid of oil and residue.
Now may be a good time to point out that you shouldn’t use the same soap for your face that you use for your body, even if you’re using a liquid cleanser for your body. If you’re using a bar soap on your body (which you ought to reconsider), don’t let it get anywhere near your face.
Facial cleansers are designed specifically for sensitive facial skin, and even the mildest body soap is too hard on the face. Face cleaning tools on the market now include a brush that works like an electric toothbrush for the face. You can learn more about the best cleansers for different types of faces, but you will rarely go wrong if you use cleansing milk or a foaming cleanser to clean your face.
Women, especially those who wear makeup, should carry out a routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising to turn back the clock each evening, as well as washing the face in the morning. All you need is five minutes to create a cleansing routine which will remove old make-up and the grime and grease that have been accumulated during the day.
Follow this quick routine for glowing skin day in and day out:
Quick tip: To make the job easier keep your hair off your face.
Cleansing
lRemove eye make-up, ie mascara, eye liner and eye shadow, with two cotton pads soaked in Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover. Wiping off from the bridge of your nose outwards.
lCleansing milk method: Pour a little face cleansing milk into the palm of one hand and place generously over the nose, chin, forehead and cheeks. Massage into the skin, starting under the throat, using a gentle suction motion by cupping your palms. Wipe off with a cotton pad or a warm wash cloth. This is a Clarins Cleansing Method named aspiration. For assistance on this technique please visit a beauty advisor at a Clarins Counter near you.
lFoaming cleanser method: Pour a little into the palm of one hand and place onto face, massage into your skin and rinse off with cool water in the morning for a fresh burst and warm water in the evening for comfort.
Toning
Toners remove all traces of dirt, make-up or cleanser that remain after cleansing.
lImmediately after cleansing apply to the forehead, chin and cheeks with two cotton pads soaked in toner, use sweeping movements from the nose outwards.
Moisturising
Without moisture, the skin will not remain smooth and supple. The face is exposed to the drying effect of the environment, so moisturisers, which form a protective film over the skin, contain and augment the natural moisture, as well as containing properties such as anti-ageing.
lUsing the tips of the fingers, dot moisturising cream lightly all over the face.
lPress the fingers of both hands into the centre of the forehead and work the cream slowly outwards. Pat the cream gentlyaround the eyes.
lWork the cream around the jawline, chin and mouth with the middle fingers of both hands.
lMassage the cream over the throat with alternating hands, using upward strokes from collar-bone to chin.
For a fresh skin start to every day, follow this routine as well as trying a cleanser from the Clarins Range, there is something for every skin type, and texture preference you may have.
