The Lord’s marvellous doings
The Lord’s doings refer to God’s manner of acting or conducting His affairs that is markedly different or opposite from man’s way of doing things. They are marvelous in our eyes because they are accomplished using methods and principles that run contrary to our conventional ways of thinking.
It is easy to sympathise with Joseph resisting the advances of Potiphar’s wife than to have the divine perspective that God was orchestrating the promotion of Joseph to the position of prime minister.
Joseph had become very comfortable with being a faithful servant in a house when God wanted him to be ruler over the whole land of Egypt. Can I say that every time you are rejected it is because people are only seeing your tail in their midst and your head is somewhere? If you gather all yourself where your head is you will be esteemed as the head and not the tail. Thus your true placement in life is where you are celebrated and not tolerated; accepted and not rejected.
How many of us were rejected as prospective mates by tho-se who pla-ced the-mselves too highly only to find you-rselves married even to spouses who were far better off? Glorious stories are told of employees who were fired for incompetency who later became employers, even of their former bosses. The Genesis narrative makes readers feel pity for Joseph who appeared to be a helpless victim of circumstances. But the divine, prophetic interpretation given in the Psalms was that Joseph was sent by God to Egypt in advance in order to preserve the children of Israel. It is marvelous to know that in God’s view the way to the throne room is through the servant’s quarters.
It is difficult to understand why the Chief priests and the elders of the Jewish community failed to recognise Jesus Christ as their long-awaited Messiah. They could not believe that anything good could come out of the humble town of Nazareth. They were the builders of God’s kingdom at that time but they rejected the King of the very kingdom they were establishing because he lacked the characteristic of general conformity to their ways of thinking and doing things. It was marvelous in their eyes to learn later on that the same stone which they rejected was regarded as the headstone by God, the master builder Himself.
The lesson is plain and clear: you are rejected by those who do not have a true knowledge of your value and purpose so that God can place you where you rightfully belong. You are a pearl in God’s hands but if you are thrown to dogs you will be trampled underfoot as a worthless thing. People judge you harshly and tell you that you will not do. Their problem is that they judge you at your point of weakness instead of judging you on the entirety of your life.
Please understand that rejection in marriage, business, ministry, social and political gatherings is meant for you to redirect your steps, energy, resources and passion towards your true purpose in life which obviously fall outside the scope and circle of your rejectors. If you graciously leave them alone and find your divine placement in life you will find that those who treated you with the least courtesy will call for you one day.
Those who despised Bill Gates when he dropped out of college were probably the ones to say in repentance, “We always knew that you had something great in mind.”
Beloved, accept your individuality and respect your uniqueness.
Those peculiar features of yours are designed to make you the head in God’s business whereas conformity will make you a square peg in man’s round table meetings.
