Vengeance is God’s business

Many a time we fail to see the saving power of God because we foster the spirit of retaliation and ungodly impatience. Salvation or good things are promised to those who discipline their hearts and minds not to revenge evil. When you master the skill of heaping up burning coals on your offenders through overcoming evil with good, you enter into the unspeakable joy of the Lord. Moreover, daily victory and good health will be assured you.
One-upmanship or getting even is the ordinary man’s way of thinking and living. The supernatural man’s way of life involves resting your cause in the hands of God fully persuaded that He who is just and righteous will take care of the injury. Because a non-retaliatory attitude is supernatural, its effects in the practitioner’s life are also supernatural. Retaliation is forbidden by God not because He does not care for the injured. He wants the injured to put themselves in a position of trusting the saving power and loving justice of God Almighty.
Given the opportunity to intervene, God can turn curses directed against us into blessings. He can marvelously bring out good out of the evil meant to destroy us. God’s desired end in not wanting us to recompense evil is for us to know and experience His surpassing power, wisdom and justice.
When we choose to recompense evil we place ourselves in the position of the judge and we rule out God completely. The problem with us being judges is that we lack the capacity to know what measure of evil is right as a return for evil done to us. And because we neither have the true discretion and understanding of the intent of the one who injured us nor have the true knowledge of the purpose of God in permitting such evil, we mess things up. Joseph could have easily chosen to return evil for evil against his brothers who sold him into slavery. But because he sensed the invisible hand of God leading him to greater heights, he willingly and joyously forgave them.
When we can remain calm, poised and serene in the midst of evil directed against us, we please God as we prove that our confidence in God is established.
A polished Christ-like character is God’s goal in allowing evil to be hurled at us. God knows that, with a well-adjusted character we can face any trouble and come out victoriously without betraying God’s plans. God boasted of Job’s integrity because evil could not move him from his trust in God.
Suppose you are a housewife who has been infected with a sexually transimitted disease by your unfaithful husband. You can react to this evil in two ways. Either, you choose to recompense evil by planning the death of your husband and spreading the disease to as many people as you can.
This will give you a sadistic satisfaction for settling the scores. Or, you can choose to be sober, forgiving and trusting that divine justice will prevail in that matter.
The first choice is the normal human instinct but it is not what God expects you to do. Your aggressive and retaliatory attitude will literally close all doors of hope for your healing and long life because it moves you beyond the boundary of God’s grace.
You are supposed to wait on the Lord for his salvation as He promised in the opening scripture above.
Waiting on the Lord means giving ample time for God to intervene and do justice. It also means preparing your heart and mind to receive God’s perspective concerning how should resolve your conflict.
In other words you are supposed to magnify the goodness, love, saving power and justice of God while waiting for His deliverance.  You can choose to do all that is medically advisable to keep yourself safe and strong until the salvation of the Lord manifests. Prayer of faith for your healing is effective only if your attitude is forgiving and loving.
It has been observed that we are hurt not so much by what happens to us but by our opinion of, and reactions to, what happens to us. If we make mountains out of molehills we will lose all hope of ever crossing the mountains. By and large, those who retaliate normally end up suffering more injury and loss than those who look to God for redress.
