Young chef scoops RTG title
The competition was held at the Kadoma Ranch Motel last weekend.
The cooking contest is designed to give the hotel group’s chefs the opportunity to have their culinary skills recognised.
Marufu outclassed her competitors, who were regional winners, to become the RTG’s new kid on the block.
Her winning dishes comprised a two-course meal with a stuffed Mexican chicken starter and a main course of beef medallion.
Marufu said the dishes were not complicated to make and “I wasn’t under pressure and that’s probably why I performed well”.
Speaking just before the competition commenced the group’s operations director, Lewis Chasakara, said the benefits of the competition included unlocking of individual innovation, development of young chefs by more experienced chefs, identification of training needs and development of appropriate programmes, benchmarking cooking levels according to the World Association of Chefs and setting the pace for uplifting of Zimbabwe’s culinary skills.
