‘ZEC commissioners should be professional’

PEOPLE’S Unity Party (PUP) has said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) commissioners should be objective, professional and transparent in their operations to ensure that the organisations’ integrity in upheld.

The opposition party’s president Herbert Chimuka said all commissioners appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa should carry out their duties as guided by the constitutions without fear or fear regardless on their political affiliation and background.

The opposition leader said he respected every member appointed but the jury was yet to be out on the appointment of former vice president Kembo Mohadi’s daughter as a ZEC commissioner.

Abigail Millicent Mohadi was one of the six new ZEC commissioners appointed on Thursday.

“Considering that her father is the ruling party’s vice president it won’t be easy for her to made decision against him. We cannot judge her since she is a professional but it remains to be seen as elections countdown begin,” he said.

He said Zimbabweans were expecting free and fair elections with the best candidate winning.

“We have always wanted ZEC to be led by independent and impartial people and we are hoping to experience this during the run up to the elections, he said.
