Zim Imagination: Urban music on another level

Such is the spirit at Media Right Studios, a new recording company in the country, which has nothing but an imagination that stretches beyond the imaginable ends — producing and recording music so that it becomes a viable means of living.
Media Right have released a massive 18-track CD aptly titled Zim Imagination, a hot and rolling compilation of music by various local artists both established and up-and-coming.
 A DVD with 15 of the numbers has been simultaneously released with CD and both are already on the market.
Media Right directors, Kudzi Matembedza — popularly known as Kaemate in music circles — and James Mpakula, aka Junior Brown, said the CD would be launched this Saturday at the World Trade Centre (CABS Centre) in the capital.
Kaemate said the CD is a compilation of urban music by various artists who include Stunner, MC Chita, Junior Brown himself, Dadza D and Capital K.
Roki is also featured as a guest artist and “the rest are being groomed”.
The music is a fusion of hip-hop and RnB.
He said Zim Imagination was borne out the experiences and vision which they hold and would like to share with the younger generation so that they can be able to earn a living out of music and inspire them to look forward to a brighter future.
But there is also the element of employment creation which comes along with it, said Kaemate, and we really think this will give the youngsters the opportunity to find something to do than loafing.
On this project, Media Right took care of all expenses from production to recording.
Though funding, as usual, stood out as the major challenge,  Kaemate said they had managed to see the project out.
He said they had submitted copies of the DVD to Channel 0 with the possibility of having the videos being played on the South African and African premier music channel.
Done entirely locally, some 12 artists had their music selected for the CD. In order to counter the malaise of piracy, the duo said besides the dual case CD,   they had also put a sleeve copy of the CD which costs just a US$1.
Obviously this wou-ld discourage the purchase of poor quality pirated CDs as the original can be bought at the same price.
The DVD also carries a Bachelor Pad, also a compilation of videos of the Zimbo night life as well as interviews with cele-brities including some “typically Zimbo mo-ments”.
The DVD is three hours long and costs just US$3.
The Bachelor Pad   is also a platform where Media Right promotes the “We are Zimbabwe” slogan. Kaemate said the catch-phrase is meant to encourage Zimbos to be proud of who they are and what they produce.
Eventually, “we are looking at the phrase being used as a selling line for everything that comes out of Zim-babwe”.
The recording company is already working on two other projects one of which, Kings’ Rendezvous, is almost complete.
The other one is due before the World Cup soccer jamboree down south.
