Zinedine Zidane expressed his delight at Enzo Zidane’s goal on Real Madrid debut

ZINEDINE Zidane admits it was a special moment seeing his son Enzo Zidane find the net on his Real Madrid first team debut.

Zidane jnr was introduced from the bench at half-time during Madrid’s 6-1 Copa del Rey victory over La Cultural y Deportivo Leonesa, and scored with a low shot from the edge of the area.

The 21-year-old was one of several youngsters involved for Los Blancos, including Martin Odegaard, Alvaro Tejero and Ruben Yanez.

But while boss Zidane was quick to praise the collective contribution of the club’s prospects, he vowed to savour his son making his mark.

“As a parent and coach, I’m happy for his goal, but I’m also happy for everything we’ve done tonight,” said Zidane.

“Most importantly, we’ve achieved our objective, we played well and won the game. I’m happy, of course, as a parent for my son, but that lasts for two seconds.

“When I talk alone with him, I’ll tell him a few things, but as a coach I think about the entirety, with respect to our opponents and all the players who got minutes.”

Almost two years after joining Real, Norwegian starlet Odegaard made his first competitive start for the club, although Zidane admits that the 17-year-old could still leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.

“That could be [an option], anything could happen, we will look at it later,” Zidane said.

“Odegaard tonight showed he has character and personality. He played a good game.”

Real are the first side to have advanced to the Copa del Rey Last 16 with an aggregate score of 13-2 over Cultural Leonesa. Kickoff.com
