THE Castle Tankard title will exchange hands at Borrowdale Race Course yet again this year as 15 runners compete in the country’s oldest horse race which has this year been bankrolled to the tune of US$50 000 by local horse racing’s all-weather friend, Delta Beverages.
The race will be run over 200m. With 2024 winner Raffles not in the field this time round, 2023 winner Ideal View comes in as the slight favourite, but will face a stiff challenge from a host of contenders that include Jet Mirage, Jaeger Moon, Abayyaan and Majestic Warrior, among others.
Indications are that the field for the today’s 65th running of the Castle Tankard race will now comprise 15 horses following the scratching of Cosmic Event on medical grounds.
MTC racing manager Betina Gurajena yesterday said all was set for the prestigious race. “I’m happy to report that preparations for race day are progressing smoothly. “Most aspects are on track, and the horses are looking great.
We’re confident about delivering an exciting event,” said Gurajena. The Debra Swanson stable dominates this year’s Castle Tankard field with eight entries, namely Ideal View, Jet Mirage, Jaeger Moon, Abayyaan, Majestic Warrior, Admirals Chance, Karvani and Zazu.
The Bridget Stidolph stable also has two entries in the race, the same number as the Amy Parham, Gavin MacLeod and Thomas Mason yards. Following the scratching of Cosmic Event, there is only one entry from the Thomas Mason yard — Action Zone. 2025 Castle Tankard field: Jet Mirage, Jaeger Moon, Abayyaan, Action Zone, Ideal View, Citrusdal, Majestic Warrior, Wantage, Admirals Chance, Master TikTok, My Secret Place, Captive Moon, Karvani, Raining Again, Zazu
