ACROSS industries, customers are becoming more informed, more connected and more selective. Businesses are operating under increasing pressure to manage costs, grow revenue, strengthen customer relationships and remain relevant in markets where competition is no longer confined to traditional boundaries.
It is against this backdrop that the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) will convene the Strategic Marketing and Business Growth Indaba & Expo (18th Annual Marketers Convention), under the theme “Marketing for Competitive Growth: Innovation, Inclusive Markets and Sustainable Value.” The indaba will bring together marketers, business leaders, decision-makers, academics, entrepreneurs and industry practitioners for a series of conversations focused on the future of marketing and the competitiveness of Zimbabwean businesses.
MAZ believes that the conversation about marketing should involve more than the marketing department. It belongs in the boardroom. It belongs in executive meetings. It belongs wherever decisions are being made about customers, markets, investment, innovation and growth.
One of the key areas of focus will be the future consumer. Customer behaviour is changing rapidly, and organisations cannot continue to make decisions based solely on assumptions formed years ago. The indaba will examine changing consumer behaviour in a digital economy, the future of e-commerce in Africa and the implications these shifts have for businesses seeking to remain relevant and competitive.
The question is no longer simply, “How do we reach the customer?” It is increasingly, “How well do we understand the customer, and how quickly can we respond to what they value?”
The programme will also challenge organisations to rethink the people responsible for driving marketing performance. The session on Building High-Performance Marketing Teams recognises that today’s marketer must be commercially aware, digitally capable, adaptable and able to demonstrate the business value of marketing.
Another important conversation will centre on the Marketing Value Chain. Agencies, creatives, production companies, media houses, outdoor advertising, public relations firms and digital agencies all contribute to how brands are built, positioned and experienced. Strengthening this ecosystem requires collaboration, professionalism and a shared understanding that every part of the value chain has a role to play in delivering value to the client and, ultimately, to the customer.
The indaba will further provide a platform for thought-provoking discussions on innovation, business growth, marketing effectiveness and competitiveness. These conversations are designed to move beyond theory and encourage participants to interrogate the realities facing organisations today. How should businesses measure marketing performance? Where should organisations place their marketing i n v e s t m e n t ? How can brands remain relevant in changing markets? How can marketing demonstrate its contribution to revenue and long-term business value?
Importantly, the convention will not be limited to presentations and panel discussions. It will create opportunities for business networking, exhibitions and the Marketing Expo, allowing organisations to showcase their brands, products, services and innovations. The expo will provide a marketplace for ideas and opportunities, enabling participants to discover solutions, engage potential partners, strengthen business relationships and explore new opportunities for growth.
The convention will also coincide with an important moment in the governance of MAZ through its Annual General Meeting (AGM). The AGM will provide members with an opportunity to participate in the association’s governance processes, including the election of new board members and the transition to a new board chair.
This is more than an administrative process; it represents an important moment in shaping the leadership and strategic direction of the professional body representing marketers in Zimbabwe.
Beyond the boardroom and conference room, the convention will also create space for connection and relationship building through a dinner cruise. The evening will provide participants with an opportunity to unwind, network and continue conversations in a more relaxed environment.
Such engagements are an important part of building the relationships, partnerships and professional networks that strengthen the marketing ecosystem.
MAZ is therefore calling upon CEOs, business leaders, marketing directors, communication professionals, entrepreneurs, academics and practitioners across the industry to make their presence felt. Come to the table. Bring your experience. Bring the difficult questions. Bring the ideas, partnerships and perspectives that can move our businesses and our profession forward.
Sponsorship, partnership and exhibition opportunities are still open for organisations looking to position themselves within conversations around marketing, innovation and business growth. Partner with us. Sponsor the Indaba. Exhibit your brand. Be part of shaping the future of marketing.
