Atletico edge Bayern Munich in first leg of Champions League semi-final

Saul Niguez gave Atletico Madrid the perfect start to its Champions League semifinal tie with a spectacular 11th minute strike

Atletico Madrid edged Bayern Munich 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Estadio Vicente Calderón on Wednesday night.

Saul Niguez got the goal in the 11th minute as he worked his way into the box before firing in off the post in stunning fashion.

Both sides struck the woodwork in the second period, as David Alaba rattled the crossbar from 30 yards out for the Bavarians, while Atletico’s Fernando Torres fired against the upright in the latter stages.

Bayern will host the return duel at the Allianz Arena on May 3.

The next day Real Madrid will entertain Manchester City in their last-four decider following a goalless stalemate at the Etihad Stadium earlier this week. – Kickoff.com
