Fingaz scribe scoops top awards

THE Financial Gazette’s Companies and Markets editor, Adelaide Moyo, was on Friday crowned the best Information Communication and Technology (ICT) journalist in the country at the 2021/22 National Journalism and Media Awards (Njama) held in the capital.
The awards — held under the theme “A free media, A free society” — celebrate excellence and quality journalism in the country.
The annual event saw journalists across the country’s 10 provinces from print, broadcast and online platforms winning several awards in 20 categories.

Moyo’s winning story explored how the public health sector harnessed the use of ICTs to address vaccination information gaps at a time vaccine hesitancy and fake news have been cited as the reasons behind the low uptake of Covid-19 inoculations.

Her story came at a time the Covid-19 pandemic led to lost production time due to shorter operating hours and disturbances in supply chains in the business sector, leading to subdued performance.

Moyo was also a runner-up in the Local Tourism Reporter of the Year award for her story on how players in the sector are intensifying efforts to create a sustainable hospitality industry by promoting climate-friendly destinations.

Her story comes as the world is moving towards sustainable tourism, which the World Tourism Organisation defines as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities”.

Barely two weeks before the NJAMAs, Moyo scooped the Chrome Sector Reporter of the Year award at the Media Mining Awards held in the capital.
Moyo came second in the Platinum Sector Reporter of the Year award category.

The main objective of the Mining Media Awards is to reward excellence in mining reporting as well as nurturing interest among journalists to report effectively on the mining sector.
